Salewa Sportgeräte GmbH, an Aschheim, Germany manufacturer of climbing equipment, recently announced an important safety recall regarding its Hot G2 Bent carabiners.
The product...
The carabiners being recalled are described as follows:
- Item number: 1557 Hot G2 Bent Colour: 0999/ rot
- Serial numbers: 02 11, or 03 11
The item and serial numbers are reportedly stamped on the carabiner, either near the breaking load information, or on the opposite side, next to the certificate number.

Note: this recall involves only individual carabiners, not express sets produced by Salewa.
The problem...
During the regular course of conducting quality control tests on its safety products to ensure the standards of quality and safety, Salewa discovered the Hot G2 Bent carabine deviated in its lateral axis breaking load from the norm values, when tested under extreme conditions at its load capacity.
The fix...
